Week 7 & 8

We have had a very busy fortnight in Dosbarth Branwen!

Literacy: Diary Writing with Depth

We’ve completed our second writing journey, crafting emotive diary entries that recount a character’s poignant move from a cherished home to a farm. Pupils skilfully used:

  • Emotive vocabulary and past participles
  • Hyphenated colour phrases (e.g. “sunset-orange sky”)
  • Personification to bring scenes to life

Their writing beautifully captured the emotional journey, blending technical skill with heartfelt reflection. We will now start our third writing journey. We will be looking at the discussion genre- focusing on climate change using the wonderful picture book, ‘Window’ by Jeanie Baker.

Maths: Algebra and Angles

This fortnight, we’ve delved into:

  • Algebraic thinking: solving simple equations and spotting patterns
  • Properties of shape: drawing and measuring shapes with precision
  • Angles: applying shape knowledge to sort, measure, and calculate angles

Pupils have shown great resilience and accuracy in their mathematical reasoning.

Diwrnod Shwmae: Welsh Through Drama

To celebrate Diwrnod Shwmae, we embraced our Welsh language skills through drama:

  • Pupils created and performed conversational sketches around the school
  • We focused on everyday Welsh phrases and expressive delivery

It was a joyful celebration of language and performance!

❤️Wear Red for Racism: Raising Awareness

In support of anti-racism, pupils worked in groups to:

  • Plan and act out scenarios that highlight different forms of racism
  • Create short videos to raise awareness and spark discussion

These will be displayed in school to promote empathy, understanding, and action.

 Topic: Farming Around the World

During topic we have focused on farming practices:

  • Comparing local methods with those around the world
  • Discussing sustainability, climate, and cultural differences

Pupils have asked thoughtful questions and made insightful connections.

ICT: Surveys and Source Checking

We’ve been developing our digital literacy through two exciting projects:

  • Garden surveys: pupils designed and conducted surveys to explore how people use their gardens in Tonysguboriau, then created graphs to present findings
  • Digi Den: we’ve begun learning how to cite sources and check the reliability of news articles

These skills are helping pupils become thoughtful, responsible digital citizens.

Thank you for your continued support. I am so proud of the children’s creativity, empathy, and growing independence. Have a lovely half term!

Warm wishes,

Mrs Powell
