Welcome to the Healthy School Committee page

Croeso i dudalen pwyllgor ysgol iach

The healthy school committee  have been working very hard already this term. They all put their heads together and decided to change how we celebrate birthdays as a school in order to make it more inclusive and fair for all pupils. They met as a committee to develop ideas and then fed back to their peers to see what they thought. They then met again with Mrs Powell, before presenting their ideas to Mrs Harries. They gained responses from parents via a questionnaire. and then they decided they would like to have a special job to do, a birthday sticker and to be sung to. This helps us to ensure we are meeting our targets as a healthy school as well as alleviating pressure on parents and pupils when having to purchase cakes.

We are very lucky to have support from all our parents and children in Tonysguboriau. This has meant that we have been able to achieve 5 of our leaves as part of the Healthy School Scheme which is a nationally recognised award. We are now looking to achieve our 6th leaf by the end of the spring term. The 6th leaf is a big award and it has three key areas which are; 'Relationships,' 'safety,' and 'substance use and misuse.'

The children will be working together with their peers to develop ideas to ensure we meet the rigorous standards to obtain our 6th leaf. We will be starting up our healthy school awards again. The children in the committee will be choosing a child from each class to receive the award each week. It is given for having a healthy lunchbox, making healthy choices and for being a kind friend when playing on the playground. They will also be choosing a dinner supervisor of the week. In turn the dinner supervisors shall be choosing two children from each class on a rotational basis to be our , 'diner of the week.' They get to sit on a table with a nice table cloth and be served their food like in a restaurant and the children really enjoy participating in this.

Please help us to share the message of the healthy school committee by ensuring your child has a healthy snack at break times and a drink of water in a refillable bottle. We also ask that you try and limit treats in lunchboxes to one treat each day where possible. We do understand that some children have dietary requirements and just ask that you try your best to support where possible.
