Platinum renewal- what have we been up to?
🌼 Growing Garden Project Underway!
One of our Eco Committee’s key actions this year is to revitalise our school growing garden, creating a wonderful space for all classes to enjoy planting and gardening throughout the spring and summer months.
We’re excited to share that all the new materials have been ordered and have now arrived! With some drier weather hopefully on the way, we’re looking forward to getting started and transforming the garden back into a vibrant, hands-on learning area for the whole school.
Eco Committee can't wait to see our pupils planting, growing, and learning together in this refreshed outdoor space! 🌱🌿
🌱 Our Eco Committee Takes Action!
Recently, our Eco Committee has been working incredibly hard to help reduce electricity use across the school. They started by discreetly checking classrooms during break times to see whether lights and interactive screens were being switched off when not in use.
They have been on the lookout for every opportunity to save energy, making sure lights are turned off in empty rooms and encouraging everyone to think carefully about our electricity habits.
Over the next few weeks, the Eco Committee will be sharing their findings with each class, continuing to monitor our progress, and hoping to see a positive improvement in how energy-smart our school can be!
🌿 Eco-Committee Shines at Youth COP30 in Cardiff! 🌿
Recently, our Year 5 and 6 Eco-Committee members had a fantastic opportunity to attend Youth COP Cymru’s Youth COP30 event in Cardiff! This bilingual workshop, held at the Temple of Peace, was part of the global COP30 summit happening in Brazil this November, which focuses on climate justice, biodiversity, and stronger global emission targets.
What is Youth COP30 in Wales?
Organised by Size of Wales and Eco-Schools, it’s a student-led simulation of the UN COP process, where pupils aged 9–14 engage with Welsh Government ministers, work on negotiation and problem-solving skills, and explore how Wales can take climate action.
🎤 Action-Packed Day
Our, talented students joined talks, discussions, creative workshops, and an immersive climate negotiation simulation, guided Size of Wales and Welsh food industry experts.
Bravely, our pupils took to the stage to pitch an eco-friendly initiative, a soy-free school dinner recipe for spaghetti and meatballs! They presented their idea to the Deputy First Minister of Wales, challenged the panel with questions about reducing soy in school meals, and showcased their appetite for sustainable solutions.
This was a valuable and educational experience for everyone involved, our Eco-Committee left the conference inspired, determined to continue making positive changes in our school, and who knows, we might be back again next year! 🍃
Finally, thank you to everyone for once again supporting our eco-friendly Christmas card initiative this year! We’ve been doing this for a few years now, and together we’ve saved thousands of potential cards and envelopes. Just imagine, for a school of 250 children, that’s potentially over 10,000 cards/envelopes avoided in the last 2 years, what an amazing impact for our environment!
After Christmas we will be collecting used Christmas cards and envelopes in school for recycling, thank you for helping us reduce waste!
Today, the Eco Committee delivered a brilliant recycling assembly to the whole school.
They did a fantastic job explaining both how we can recycle and why it’s so important. Well done to everyone involved!
The Eco Committee has made a fantastic start to the new school year!
We’ve successfully formed our new team and created our action plan for 2025–26. Last week, we took part in the RCT Recycling Project, where we recycled a large amount of school clothing to support local initiatives. Any remaining good-quality uniforms are now available in our reception area for anyone who needs them.
If you’re looking for school uniform items, feel free to pop into reception and ask, we’re happy to help!
